I have done this process on current PW5 with KF8 format books I own. IF you jailbreak the Kindle PW5 and install that old software version on it and download the KU book to it, and it isn't in KFX format, theoretically you should be able to copy it from the Kindle to Calibre (by switching to the Device view in Calibre, right-clicking on the book, and choosing something like "add to library") and have it work, but I haven't done that because I read my KU books on the Kindle anyway and with 20 books available at once if I want to keep one I just don't have to return it. Unfortunately you have to do it one at a time this way. Then you should be able to download the file and load into Calibre using deDRM. Select that you are downloading for your Kindle PW5. Click on the expansion arrow next to "More Actions" for that book and select "Download & Transfer via USB" (this link will not be available for Kindle Unlimited books anymore because Amazon blocks KU downloads starting this year). Scroll to or search on the book you wish to download. Go to the Amazon Website and navigate to your Account and then Manage Content and Devices. The books are all azw though and not kfx. With Calibre, I then use deDRM (the updated noDRM version).Īfter pointing calibre to the Kindle downloads folder it happily imports and removes the DRM. Step 3 in this link Īfter that I manually sent all books from the Amazon website to the app and waited for the downloads to complete. You then have to prevent the app from downloading the KFX files. If the folder is read only it can’t grab the latest version behind your back. I then set my kindle temp download folder to ‘read only’ as the app force updates even if you tell it not to. I downloaded Kindle for Mac 1.31 and quickly disconnected from the internet. Honestly though it was a pain and I only did it to archive my current library.īut the process after much trial and error is: Ignore the downvotes I got, it works and I’m quite happily downloading only azw files and converting easily.
